Hey Mom, I’m the New York Times
May 10th, 2009
It’s an article and video on Portland’s incredibly diverse, dynamic and growing food cart scene. It’s one of the unique and wonderful things about Portland, and I’m really honored the Times chose me to help guide them. From an urban culture, travel and food perspective for a journalist, it just doesn’t get any better as a subject matter!
As some of you know, I’ve been studying and chronicling Portland’s food carts since 2007 here. I’ve really grown a deep fondness for, and commitment to this food cart community. I really admire and respect so many of the cart owners for their entrepreneurial spirit and true grit. The cart owners are absolutely passionate about what they do, highly creative, and prove that good food doesn’t have to cost a fortune.
Portland’s food carts are also a terrific case study in grass roots economic development, community building AND the power of social media. Uh, oh, I sense a case study coming on. Stay tuned!
